A recurring theme of the story is the fallacy of memory, as the narrative explores the twins' childhood trauma and how they may each remember pivotal moments differently. It follows a pair of twins, Tyler and Alyson, with the ability to communicate with each other through telepathy, who reunite after ten years in their hometown in rural Alaska and investigate the death of their mother. The game consists of three chapters released for Windows and Xbox One in late 2020. Earlier this year, Dontnod permanently made Tell Me Why's first chapter free on PC and Xbox. The collaboration gave rise to the character of Tyler Ronan, a transgender man who works with his twin sister Alyson to unearth the mysteries about their traumatic youth. In developing this particular endeavor, the crew at Dontnod consulted with organizations like GLAAD to ensure the project culminated in an authentic trans narrative.
Tell Me Why, of course, counts as no exception. Since the advent of Life is Strange in 2015, the French studio has built a reputation for tackling a variety of social issues and topics in its interactive adventures. Xbox Game Studios published the story-driven experience, which became the first major AAA game to star a trans character in a leading, playable role. Dontnod launched Tell Me Why in the summer of 2020 to predominantly favorable reviews across the board. In honor of Pride Month, Life is Strange creator Dontnod Entertainment is allowing PC and Xbox players to download and own Tell Me Why at no extra cost.
